Jill Clarke
Mobile Personal FitnessTrainer in Totnes
I am Jill Clarke a mobile personal fitness trainer in Totnes and this is what I do for you...
When we first meet at your free assessment session ....

-
I will discuss with you your general health and exercise history
-
We will set attainable goals for the short and long term
-
We create a progress report to enable us both to monitor how you are getting on
I will then devise a programme of exercise just for you and then come to your home or your preferred training location on a regular basis at a time and frequency that suits you.

I will bring with me some simple pieces of equipment that will enable us to have fun while you learn a range of exercises including:
-
mats
-
weights
-
resistance bands
-
weighted bars
-
fitness balls
Stretching is an important, but often neglected, part of any exercise programme. I will be teaching you stretching exercises that will work on all parts of the body and that you can do outside of our sessions. The main purpose of stretching is to keep mobility and flexibility in the muscles and the joints.
The programme will include sessions that you can undertake by yourself and could include:
-
regular fast walking and/or running
-
stretching
-
body weight exercises
It is impossible to out exercise a bad diet!

You may have issues with your weight; this is also something I can help you with alongside the exercise programme. We can discuss your eating habits and devise an eating programme that can complement your exercise programme.
As you become more active and use even light weights and other equipment, your muscles are going to tone up and since muscle weighs more than fat, your total body weight may not go down as fast as you might expect or want. What we can say is that your body shape will change for the better and healthier too!
We can take measurements before the programme starts so that you can monitor your progress.

Something About Me!
In my childhood and teenage years I played a lot of tennis at quite a high level and was generally very sporty. But after I had my four children I spent many years watching them being very sporty and not doing very much myself – apart from bringing them up! However, nearly 20 years ago I was part of a team that entered the Moonwalk in London, doing the marathon distance. Although, this was ‘only’ powerwalking it took some training for. After the event which was memorable I realised that I loved the feelings of physical and mental wellbeing so that I stuck with it!
In subsequent years I have run quite a few half marathons and regularly attended the gym although it was not until I found a personal trainer that I got a direction for my fitness training. (See the section on Why you need a mobile personal trainer in your life for the benefits that I got from my personal trainer)
With my continuing enthusiasm for keeping fit I decided to become a personal trainer myself, and although I have reached an age where people of a similar age may be starting to feel the symptoms of growing older – weight gain, decreased energy levels and weakened muscles – I am not, because these are the symptoms of inactivity not ageing! Although of course, I do have the occasional twinge!
Now I am fully qualified, I want to pass my expertise, enthusiasm and motivation on, either to people who may have done very little physically or those who actively played a sport a few years ago but have not done very much in recent years and now, perhaps because of health concerns, want to start to be a little more active again but, like me, need some direction. Or perhaps you have always been active but now want to try something a bit different.
So whatever the reason – it is never too late to make use of a personal trainer!

I visit your home at a time convenient to you. Personalised Training Programme.

It's never too late to become more active...
There is an increasing amount of research showing what regular physical exercise can achieve in both strength and fitness at any age even into your 70s and 80s! You can improve your long term health, posture and bone density, increase your energy levels, metabolism, suppleness and confidence and decrease your blood pressure, stress and anxiety levels.
You are never too old to increase levels of physical activity and the older you get the more important regular activity becomes. A recently published study tracked the exercise habits of 64 year olds and found that those who exercised regularly achieved ‘healthy’ ageing, staving off serious illnesses up to seven times more than counterparts who were not exercising.
After the age of 50, the natural rate of decline in our muscle mass will begin to gradually increase. Now we can’t stop this but we can slow the process down. And the best way to do this is with weight training. So you can and you should build muscle after 60! This will help you with all the everyday tasks like carrying shopping and working around the house and garden. Please contact me if you want to discuss how taking regular exercise – including a sessions with me can help you to start feeling years younger!
